, everybody. right now already dealing with the first accident of the morning and it comes from virginia. southbound 95. watch for it at backlick road. we are losing two left lanes going northbound you are okay. continuing on to 3 t 5 northbound, everything is nice and clear from the beltway to the 14th street bridge. we are tracking 66 eastbound. no problems to report out this way through mass transit to inside this -- manassas to the beltway. north of the district from georgia avenue, continuing in to virginia crossing the american legion bridge and wrapping up with southbound 95 an the bw parkway, smooth sailing for those traveling out of the baltimore area past 198 toward powder mill and beyond. >>> hurricane earl is heading up the east coast. right now it is a category two storm an it is situated off the coast of north carolina and carrying winds as high as 105 miles an hour. the national weather service says it produced a small storm surge an minor flooding. much of the east coast is expected to endure 28 hours of stormy windy weather as earl swirls north. it is expected to stay aw

at the radar, it is raining really hard. they are getting wind driven heavy rains from virginia beach down to nags head. those areas of yellow and orange, the center of circulation of earl is just about 40 or 50 miles to the east of hatteras. but the heavy rains are coming in inland and slamming the beach area there. our local radar not showing rain here but there are a few sprinkles in the northern neck of virginia and bay. some of the rain will be arriving into ocean city in the next hour. and earl, here's the wide view continues to advance to the north. it's a category 2 storm. the winds have decreased since yesterday morning at this time but still a powerful storm moving north-northeast at 16. it will take it up towards new england. closer view of the track showing it will be further out to sea. there's still going to be enough tropical storm force winds, maybe 40 to 50-mile-per-hour gusts at ocean city later today. we'll have temperatures climbing in the mid to upper 90s. and breezy tomorrow near 80. looks like a great labor day weekend. how's the traffic? >> we're starting you off wi

as it was a few hours ago. want to mention a hurricane watch has now been extended for the virginia coastline up to just south and east of ocean city. let's get to local weather. we are mild. 77degrees. humidity, 64%. winds are out of the south and west at five miles per hour. pressure down a little bit. this area of happen that has been giving us the heat starting to break down. winds will shift a little bit today. this will be the last day of extreme heat as we get into tomorrow and particularly friday. things will start to cool off a little bit as earl approaches here. one more hot afternoon. 95degrees. only a code orange air quality. that is a little better than yesterday. >> earl will cool things down for us toward the end of the week. >> the cool front will cool us down. more on that in a minute. >> okay. >> let's get a look at traffic with lauren demarco. >> right now, light volume helping us out. can you take a live look out there at 66 courtesy of trafficland as you head inbound. no problems through manassas approaching route 50 fair oaks. we have reports of a disabled vehicle blocking

a bit, virginia beach is less than 100 miles from earl's approach of land and it escaped the high winds and flooding that hit the outer banks. >> still a light drizzle here in virginia beach but we are expecting the sun shortly. they are taking stock of the damage one tree down, eight people without power, no major flooding. call it dancing with earl. even at 3:00 a.m., people were out romancing the storm. in the dark, winds gusted to a high of maybe 20 miles an hour. the rain just sprinkled down. at daybreak, the adventurers took to the beach, even waltzing in the water. awed by the waves and imagine imagine industry that skirted the ocean front to offer a cares reinstead of a punch. >> it is something magic about being out there. >> very fresh. don't get it all the time. the wind feels great. >> reporter: by 7:30, the wind had shifted. earl was sucking it back out that way, and if you look at the swells, you can see how the wind was blowing the foam out to sea. the wind blew northeast in gusts as high as 40 miles an hour. the biggest threat now the waves an the tide which may eat up p

and down toward virginia beach as well. but inland in chesapeake, you are not included in this. take a look at these winds. 30 to 50 miles per hour in the southern portions of delmarva, toward the solomons area. maybe 15 to 30 miles per hour. look at d.c. maybe 10 to 20 miles per hour. west of that, not much in the way of winds. a very tight gradient as who sees some wind and had a doesn't see any at all. same deal with the rain. very with the toward the east. for most areas we're staying on the dry side. this evening we will see high clouds continue to increase. it will be a nice evening and a nice night around here. then tomorrow, partly cloudy, mainly dry early. 66 to 74 degrees tomorrow. partly sunny. showers mainly on the eastern shore, turning breezy. 85 to 90 degrees. as we look through the next four days. 79 on saturday. a little on the windy side there. breezy sunday, around 80 degrees. right now the weather looks great saturday, sunday and monday. for most of us in this area, tomorrow you're going to be like what hurricane do they continue to talk about? you really won't see much

to julie wright with the on-time traffic. >>> let's start off in virginia with the inner loop slowing, braddock up to gallows where on the ramp at the exit is a stalled car. latest crash in the main line of 395 approaching glebe. the right side blocked off on the main line. it is heavy, slow and steady up to the accident scene. it's causing a tight squeeze out of shirlington past glebe and toward the 14th street bridge. 95 in separate stretchs will be slow, from dale city to lorton and newington toward the beltway. in maryland, between 205 and cedarville, accident pulled to the shoulder but the 301 is slow toward brandywine. 270 gridlocks to falls road before the pace improves. no change at the scene in northwest. 16th street is blocked off between park and columbia for investigation of an early morning fire. again a lot of bailout traffic on georgia avenue, 13th and 14th streets and north cap. that's a check of your fox 5 on- time traffic. >>> we are following the news out of northwest d.c. with several people injured in a fire. many residents forced from their home. this happened at

, virginia, plans to open an adult themed store in the old town area has riled some community leaders. they stay store will ruin the wholesome environment they've worked very hard to create there. the store owner says her shop is being unfairly judged. julie carey has more on this. >> reporter: old town Ă‘imanassa local leaders have spent hundreds of thousands to make it family friendly. that's why some are alarmed to learn, this new store opening soon will feature adult items. the window promises dvds, lotions, lingerie and more. they've called a community meeting. >> it is a big quhern a porno shop wants to locate here. we have them in prince william county and manassas and i've never raised a fuss about it. i've never gone out to shut them down. right here in old town is not the place to do it. >> reporter: the director of the arts center down the block agrees. >> we have the center for the arts. we have a lot of classes in the arts. we have thousands of children that come through every year. and their parents, and i think it is absolutely the wrong place to have a shop like this.
